1st pic: "Dromornis stirtoni, Stirton's thunder bird. Weighed up to 500kgs/1,100lbs and reached up to 3mts/9.8ft in height. Heavier than the Giant Moa of New Zeland and taller than the Elephant bird of Madagascar. This gigantic bird was classified as a running bird for some time, today it is recognized as an ancestor of geese".

2nd pic: "Aepyornis maximus, Elephant bird of Madagascar. It is the heaviest bird known to date, weighing up to 1 ton. It walked slowly but used its size and strength to defend itself. It went extinct approximately 2 thousand years ago".

"Dinornis giganteus, Giant Moa of New Zeland. The largest non-flying bird that ever lived, 3.6mts/12ft tall. It swallowed pebbles and kept them in its gizzard (lower part of the stomach), where it ground its vegetable food. Its extinction began some 10 thousand years ago, when human beings first arrived in New Zealand. The last specimens were hunted around 200 years ago".
